4th of July Mom Hacks: Blanket Games

4th of July Mom Hacks: Blanket Games

Waiting for fireworks and parades to start can feel like forever. Your phone might keep them entertained for a bit but it won't make memories so I like bring some games to keep the party rolling. The first set we call bottle wars 🏅. Essentially it's just a few family games played around your blanket with stuff you have on hand, like water bottles and glow sticks (chubby bottles - like sports drinks - work best on grass). To get started, just add a few glow sticks to the bottles so the games can go on all night 🌙. Here are just a few bottle war options:

Ring Toss: Have the kids set the bottles around the blanket and toss glow bracelets to 'ring' them. Score points based on bottle color or distance from the blanket.

Battleship: Divide into two teams. Place half the bottles scattered on one side of the blanket and half on the other. Each team takes turns turning their back to opposing team's bottles and throwing a shoe over their head to knock them down. When all the bottles are 'sunk', that team wins.

Knock Out: set the bottles up on baskets (I got ours from the dollar store) and throw shoes or snack bags to try to knock them down before the completion.
Easy, right? Feel free to share your ideas in the comments below. I'll be posting more ideas throughout the day so be sure to stay posted.
