My favorite way to contain homework chaos

My favorite way to contain homework chaos
Back to School tip #2: Family Inboxes. I mentioned these on my @studio5ksl segment a few months ago but they’re definitely worth reviewing this time of year. The hardest part about managing kid papers is the sheer quantity that comes home. Some need to be signed and returned, some stored for a week or two, and some are just purely informational…and there’s no way to tell at a glance which is which…or which kid it came home with. 👎🏻

For our family, the only way to survive the flood is to stash everything in these cheap IKEA inboxes. When the kids come home from school, they empty out all the paper in their backpacks into their inbox...spelling lists, take-home reading, homework, field trip slips, all of it. 📝 After dinner, when life is calmer, I go through the inboxes and do a quick sort. Anything that is show-off work, like good grades or art projects, gets added to the brag board (more on this tomorrow). Stuff that needs to be signed goes back in their backpacks.

Papers that are purely informational are clutter to me so I take a quick picture of the important ones on my phone before tossing them. My phone has an album for each kid’s school so I can easily swipe back and forth and keep all the important info at my fingertips. When I’m waiting in the pickup line or trying to get the family calendar together, I’ll go through the pictures and add things to my phone’s Calendar/Reminders list 📅. The pictures are handy because I can easily forward them to my husband or grandparents if it's something they'll want to know about. Genius, right? It’s not a perfect system but it definitely makes my paper-filled, mom-of-six life a little easier. 👏 #backtoschool #organization#momhacks
