Show off your kid's art and stay organized at the same time

Show off your kid's art and stay organized at the same time

Back to School Tip #3: The Brag Board. To the left of our homework desk (opposite the inboxes) is our family brag board. This is the place where certificates, graded tests and artwork hang out. My fridge is not a safe place for paper because a million sticky hands use the fridge each week. Plus, the magnets tend to scratch the stainless steel surface 👎🏻.

I love showing off my kids work but I HATE paper clutter so I limit the cork board to 10-15 sewing pins (I hate thumb tacks because they tend to fall out and stab my feet). If something brag-board-worthy comes home and there isn't an extra pin, I know something has to go. If it's precious, it will go up in the memory boxes (more on these next). If it's just cute, I pitch it. I know it probably pains many of you to throw out your kid's work but having six kids has changed me. It's just not practical to keep it all.

I know they will grow up and want to see a sample of what they created each year - a few art projects, some writing and some memorabilia - but they won't want it all. Unlike us, their lives are being documented on my phone and social media accounts so I'm pretty sure they'll have a good idea of who they were at each stage of life. Plus, I don't want to store it for them for next few decades while I wait for them to become real adults. 😉

This simple cork board strategy lets the whole family see their cool work for a week or two and then forces me to purge on a regular basis. It's a homework desk staple in my book. #momhacks #backtoschool#organization
